Metal Table Lamps & Floor Lamps: Choosing for Your Room
SAPCELURE lighting journal · Updated 29 October 2026
Choose a metal table lamp when light belongs close to a surface. Choose a metal floor lamp when the room needs height, a separate light point or a sculptural accent beside seating.
Metal table lamps for a bedside, desk or sideboard
Measure the surface before looking at the lamp height. The base needs to sit securely, and the shade should leave room for the objects you use every day. For a bedside, check that the switch is reachable without moving the lamp. For a desk, look for a light direction that supports your work and avoids a bright reflection in your screen.
A black metal table lamp can give a clear outline against a pale wall. A silver or reflective finish can pick up nearby materials. Check the selected finish in the product options: the photographs may show only one version. Also distinguish a decorative tabletop light from a lamp with a specifically adjustable head.
Tilted Bowl Glass Table Lamp — MT-1191
MT1191 combines aluminium, glass and carbon steel. Listed sizes are 370 × 500 mm and 500 × 600 mm, with one E27 holder; the bulb is not included.
12SQUARE Pelican Table Lamp
Pelican combines a stainless-steel structure with a PETG shade. Its specification lists a pivoting head, brightness control and a 12 V / 3 W / 3000 K light source.
Metal floor lamps for a living room or reading corner
Think about the lamp as part of the room’s circulation. Compare base dimensions with the gap beside your chair and keep the cable out of the walkway. A tall, narrow silhouette can create an architectural line; a wider shade can occupy much more visual space than its base suggests.
For a reading corner, assess how much light reaches the page. An atmospheric floor lamp can complement a reading light, but a warm glow does not establish task-light performance. Choose a floor lamp with dimming only when that control is explicitly listed for the model.
12SQUARE Song Floor Lamp
Song is listed at H 1800 × L 230 × W 290 mm, with 304 stainless steel, acrylic and a cast-iron base. Dimming is not specified in its supplied source.
Architectural Ribbed Glass Floor Lamp — MT-1314
MT1314 combines chrome-finish stainless steel with fine-ribbed tempered glass. Its product page lists two sizes and 2.4G stepless dimming.
How to combine table and floor lamps
Assign a job to each light point. A table lamp can mark the edge of a sofa or sideboard; a floor lamp can bring height to the opposite side of the room. Keep a separate source for close work when the decorative lamp does not provide suitable illumination.
You do not need identical finishes everywhere. Repeat a detail such as a dark stem, a reflective edge or a glass element to connect the pieces. Compare the lamps with the room lighting both on and off so their daytime form and evening atmosphere both work.
Check these details before buying
- Whole-lamp dimensions, base size and cable route.
- The selected finish and whether the bulb is supplied.
- Supply voltage and any external driver or adapter.
- Listed controls, rather than an assumed dimming function.
- Suitability for your room and the required light output.
